Alsa: no level switch for the headphone

Hello,

I am new to Arch Linux, I come from Debian sid. My first impressions are quite good: KDE 4 works! (albeit a bit slow, with Intel 945GM graphic card and desktop effects enabled). Congratulations, good work! smile

I am having a problem in Arch that I also had in Debian and in different computers after the latest upgrades: there is no level switch for the headphone and, of course, I cannot hear any sound through jack headphones (I can through speakers). The problem is not KDE-specific: it also happened with alsamixer before installing the X server.

Is this because of Alsa? Is this before of the kernel?

And, of course: is there any workaround?

Thank you very much in advance.
