since xorg 1.6 was moved to extra, pacman (or yaourt) tries to downgrade xf86-video-intel
==> Software upgrade (new version) :
extra/xf86-video-intel 2.6.99.902-1 -> 2.6.3-3
==> Continue installing ? [Y/n]
==> [V]iew package detail [M]anualy select packages
==> ----------------------------------------------

why is this?

The development package has been removed from the repos and 2.6.3-3 has had a "force" flag set. Probably the development package caused more harm than it did good.

Try with this:
pacman -S xf86-video-intel-legacy
or
yaourt -S xf86-video-intel-legacy
It works great (for me)

thats an older driver which actually does not work as it should here........
im having a myriad of problems since xorg was moved to extra...and i dont know why, while on testing, everything worked ok, now i cannot even use compiz (white cube). i get 140fps on glxgears.
using kms + uxa fixes all issues, but there is a huge memory leak that turns the system unresponsive after 20 minutes of use. so there i am, not knowing what changed since testing, and unable to revert....
