I update hal from 0.5.11-7 to 0.5.12git20090406.46dc48-1 version. When I try mount ntfs partition on nautilus I get the error: Cannot get volume.fstype.alternative. After a while appears the error: DBus error org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.NoReply: Message did not receive a reply (timeout by message bus).
Seems which the hal update erase 20-ntfs.fdi configuration.

I am having the same problem although my 20-ntfs-config-write-policy.fdi has not been erased.

I solved this problem creating the following code in
/etc/hal/fdi/policy/20-ntfs-3g-policy.fdi:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<deviceinfo version="0.2">
<device>
<match key="volume.fstype" string="ntfs">
<merge key="volume.fstype" type="string">ntfs-3g</merge>
<merge key="volume.policy.mount_filesystem" type="string">ntfs-3g</merge>
<append key="volume.mount.valid_options" type="strlist">locale=</append>
</match>
</device>
</deviceinfo>
After this restart hal and voila.

Hmmmmmm I noticed your file was named differently so I tried renaming mine and lo and behold it works, strange but thanks.
