Today i had some problems with electricity. I use ext4, so ive lost almost all day work, but also something strange started to happen with my computer (Arch, KDEmod 4.2.1, Qt4.5). It freezes often and randomly (but always after boot) for mouse operations. Mouse works but clicks dont have any effect, they only change current window, but i cannot click on any particular button or scroll page with mouse. Wherever i click it only takes clicked window to a foreground. But also keyboard operations (tab to select button and space to "click" it, or tab to select content and page down to scroll it) work good. When i do this way multiple operations with keyboard, mouse unfreezes for some time. Its strange

Now im can click on firefox toolbars, but clicking on firefox webcontent area doesnt make any reaction. Ive press alt+tab to change window to another application. Now clicking in another application focuses window... on firefox which is in the background. Its a bit frustrating, because it started to happen suddenly, and also ive got _identical_ problem on Windows (there, alt+ctrl+del to exit to a system monitor caused unfreeze)

Ive downgraded firefox beta to stable version and now this freezes occur more rarely (but dont blame firefox over it, they still occur sometimes, and started to occur long after ive installed firefox-beta). Now usually they occur after hard and long HDD work, or when computer do nothing for longer time.
Keyboard mouse emulation in KDE dont help - its frozen like real mouse.
Htop dont show memory or cpu stress.

But strangest thing is after soft-reboot of computer (sudo reboot) problem occur directly after booting, but shutdown -h now and powering computer manualy get rids of problem up to next freeze. This is strage because freezes seems to be pure software - because mouse is working but seems to click on another windows which is in background.

Another thing ive noticed: this "freeze" occurs always (but not only!) after monitor going back from standby mode. By the way, how can i turn this off? In KDE settings energy saving of monitor is turned off, but it still goes to standby mode.
Anybody cannot help? Problem went worse now, after KDE 4.2.2 update, because alt+f1 dont focuses keyboard on the menu so when it freezes, i almost cannot run any application in different way than by kicker.

Resolved. Downgrading xorg-server to 1.5.3 helped.

Today as xorg-server 1.6 moved to extra ive updated my system + catalyst drivers and problem returned. Problem exists also on opensource graphic drivers.

Yesterday, getting angry at this ive reinstalled system, to i686 version, only preserving my /home partition.
But problem preserved, nothing changed on xorg-server 1.6.0 - still mouse "goes to another world" from time to time, but on xorg-server situation changed on 180 degrees - when i had x86_64, on 1.5.3 problem didnt occured, and here on i686 problem is much worse than on 1.6.0. Mouse is in "another world" from the beggining and its almost completly unusable anywhere (when on 1.6.0 i can use it in one, random curently opened window.

Strangely I have that problem when I use Virtualbox. My mouse moves but nothing happens when I click on something.

Bestiapeluda: Yeah thats something similar, but Virtualbox have this as feature - you must press ctrl and it should release your mouse

I know that. But It really doesnt work. Not even int the virtual machine itself.

You can give this a try:
You might want to change the mouse driver in xorg.conf, I had an issue with my keyboard after I updated to Xorg 1.6.1, the keyboard was working strangely. All I did was to edit xorg.conf and change the "InputDevices" driver to the ones mentioned on the top of the file(The drivers provided by Arch- most likely the names should be CorePointer & CoreKeyboard)...
I wonder how it would be like to use the rest 99% of my brain..:P
