[SOLVED] Amarok, libmtp, kdemod

Hi all,

Just noticed that when running amarok, I now get the following at startup.

KLibLoader could not load the plugin:
libamarok_mtp-mediadevice
Error message:
libmtp.so.7: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

Sure enough,

[greg@el-diablo ~]$ ls -l /usr/lib/libmtp.*
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 193196 2009-04-09 12:57 /usr/lib/libmtp.a
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root     15 2009-04-09 12:57 /usr/lib/libmtp.so -> libmtp.so.8.2.2
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root     15 2009-04-09 12:57 /usr/lib/libmtp.so.8 -> libmtp.so.8.2.2
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 187333 2009-04-09 12:57 /usr/lib/libmtp.so.8.2.2
[greg@el-diablo ~]$

I've reinstalled amarok and libmtp but amarok is still looking for an older version of the library. A good old fashioned redhat era hack of sym-linking did not work.

So, is this an arch problem, or a kdemod problem?
Cheers
GregW

It's not a question of whether it's arch or kdemod. Amarok still looks for an old lib, so it has to be rebuilt, report it to whoever maintains the amarok package - be it an Arch TU/dev or Kdemod maintainer.

A good way to hose your installation in an unexpected time when you've forgotten that you symlinked some libraries...

But yes, should be reported to the maintainers. Meanwhile you can recompile amarok yourself using ABS so that it does use the newer libmtp.

ah! abs, I'd forgotten about building from source, thanks for the information. Oh yeah, I deleted the symlink before building the package!!

Excellent!

I've now built amarok from abs, with one build error that I found a fix for here: http://groups.google.com/group/lucky.fr … 13e8?pli=1 Amarok is now installed working with my mtp player.

Thanks again B and bender02

Re: [SOLVED] Amarok, libmtp, kdemod

If you are using KDEmod stable--it is probably a KDEmod problem.  Amarok2 on the KDEmod stable packages is very dated-and won't updated for sometime.
