Hi,
If this post is in-appropriate for any reasons, please let me know, and I am sorry for that.
But I did google and follow the instructions on the wiki, and nothing helps.
A noise, sounds like electricity, just comes.
And another buzz sound comes together while moving the mouse.
My system is:
Mother board= ASUS P4P800 (ICH4-Inter ICH5, 82801EB/ER, AD1985)
Kernel=2.6.27.10-1
alsa-lib=1.0.18-1
alsa-utils=1.0.18-1
Does anyone use the same mother-board without sound problem? or
anyone has a clue how to check out the problem?
thx

Please check your sound levels. PCM should be at 0 Db, if you set it higher, you'll get noise. I remember reading about sound problems related to mouse moving (something with firefox, I think), but I forgot the details, sorry.
You might also give OSS4 a try.

Do you have a wireless mouse? Depending on the mouse/headpone combo it is possible that your headphones are acting like an antenna. Lord knows my GSM cell phone has almost deafened me when it's laying near my headphone cable.
Try another mouse (if it's wireless, use a wired. If it's wired, use a different wired.)

Thanks, wuischke and timetrap.
But all those do not work.
1. My mouse is wired.
2. I set PCM gain to 0dB, it doesn't help. So I tried to set all of them to 0dB, nothing changes, neither.
Then I tried to mute them all, but the noise still exists.
3. At last, I tried to stop ALSA, and as usual, the noise is still there.
But this makes me wonder if this is related to ALSA or it is a hardware problem?

In my laptop some time I used to get a long beep sound if I close the lit. If open then all seems to be ok. I blocked the pc speaker after that every thing is ok. (modprobe -r pcspkr).

Does this noise only happen when you're on Arch? It seems to me that it's a hardware problem.

Thank all of you.
I tried Ubuntu Live CD, and the noise still comes out.
So how can I be sure if it is a "hardware" problem?
I mean... the noise comes out while "udevadm settle" (in /etc/rc.sysinit) had finished.
If it is a "hardware" problem, shouldn't it comes out even in.... BIOS (or GRUB) ?
Besides, udevadm settle is used to load kernel modules, so it is quite reasonable to say that
there must be some modules which cause this problem, right?
Also I tried to remove kernel modules used by none, but it doesn't help, neither.
Those modules still loaded are:

Hi, I think i have similar problem with you, on my Thinkpad T400. But my problem is randomly happened, I cannot re-produce it at present.
There would be a noisy electricity noise, hearing like "ci...ci.....zi....ci...." after system boots up, then there will be a process "canberra-gtk-pl" occupy CPU for a long time, and the noise is still there. When this happened, sound system was broken. If I chose to test sound in "Preference->Sound", it would freeze; If I chose to play music in Rhythmbox, there was no sound, only song names scrolling. The noise can be muted by pressing MUTE button. But if un-mute, it comes again!
However, this problem is randomly happened, other times everything work fine! and it's fine up to I realized to check the forum, so I don't know if this is related to snd_pscp or pcspkr module, in the fine working system, there is no snd_pcsp or pcspkr module list in lsmod.
If you still have this problem, try to add "!snd_pcsp !pcspkr" into MODULES array in rc.conf to disable PC speaker so as it won't interfere sound card and to see if this helps.

It may just be the audio device - i.e. a hardware thing. I remember getting occasional high pitched whines and some buzzing as well from my ATI "Azalia" onboard audio controller and thought it was a Linux issue, but then I installed Windows XP on a separate HDD partition and had the exact same problem. I then installed a decent sound card with a C-Media 8738 chipset in it, and never heard whining again in either OS.

I had the exact same problem on my Dell Vostro 1310 with Intel82801H HDA.
The solution for me was muting "beep" in ALSAmixer.
