I was trying to install xp on my lappy but i found out that it cant be installed on an extnded partition >.< Once I restarted, nothing would boot so I went into the arch live disk. fdisk -l shows all of my partitions still but grub wont install.
When I try grub-install I get this message: could not find device for /boot: not found or not a block device.
When I go into grub then type the root command it tells me this: filesystem type unknown, partition type 0x5
It is an ext4 partition but im using the latest arch release.

Sorry, no idea. Have you Googled for a solution? Surely this has happened to someone before. If not, you may just have to reinstall.
Maybe something like this will work? http://www.sysresccd.org/Main_Page

the easiest way to restore your MBR (IMHO) is boot some live system, mount your root partition, bind dev from the root to the live os dev with mount -o bind /dev /path/to root/dev and then chroot into it with chroot /path/to root/. then run grub, type root (hdX,X) then setup (hdX), quit & reboot
If it ain't broke, broke it then fix it.

Maybe u screwed up your partition table? If so try testdisk from a livecd.

By the way, the standard dos/win mbr loader is in the syslinux package if that's what you want (that thing just boots the partition that has the 'boot' flag set).

This should reinstall grub if the arch linux installation is still ok: http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Reinstalling_GRUB
