It's useful for example when you are working on a complicated pkgbuild and you first try to do some things "manually" (like patching, compiling with different options, etc, etc.). Later you can extract what you need and use in your pkgbuild. Together with screen's copy/paste mode it's really powerful (no need to worry about scrollback history, no need for mouse,...)
