Just installed kde 4.2 (no previous kde installation). I want to edit a file as root and I typed the following from the command line:
bash-3.2# kwrite /etc/X11/xorg.conf
and got the following error:
kdeinit4: preparing to launch /usr/lib/kde4/libexec/klauncher
klauncher(5454) kdemain: No DBUS session-bus found. Check if you have started the DBUS server.
kdeinit4: Communication error with launcher. Exiting!
Can someone tell me how to fix it? Thanks.

Try kdesu kwrite as a normal user.

zyghom: I think hal is working. When installing I put it in the daemons section in /etc/rc.conf . Also using system monitor I see the following:
dbus-daemon user name=steve (mine)
dbus-daemon user name=root
dbus-launch user name=steve
dbus-launch user name=root
hald user name=hal
hald-addon-acpi user name=hal
hald-addon-inpu user name=root
(many hald-addon-stor processes running as well)
Wintervenom: using "kdesu kwrite" does work. Curious as to why I can't do it as root from command line though. Thanks.

kdemod has that on by default.

It turned out to be something dumb that I did in rc.conf. I believe that I had dbus in the module section. Anyhow, after looking at some other rc.conf files on this forum I made some changes and I can now edit file as root without the kdesu command.

Specifically? It may help others.

I discovered a workaround by chance. You make "xhost +" as user, then you su to root by "su -", and launch kwrite. It will take a few seconds.
After that, you can just su (without the following dash) and launch kwrite (after having done "xhost +" as user).
By the way, why don't we have "sux" in the Arch packages? It allows you to su and use the user's X, but the permissions are not so generous as with "xhost +".

@alleluia: sux is in aur...

Perhaps someone has an answer to ...enable-run-as-root...for the kde4 system not having any users but just root?
