After upgrading to xorg-server 1.6.0, I cannot set my mouse sensitivity lower than the default through xset. For example, 'xset m 8 0' makes the mouse very very fast, but 'xset m 0 0' and 'xset m 1/999 2' provide the same speed. My problem is the exact same one stated in this thread. I am using Openbox 3.4.7.2. This problem was not present on xorg-server 1.5.3.
Is this a bug or has the method of setting the mouse speed changed?

linkmaster03,
with xset m 4/2 5 its working for me now, but a couple of weeks ago it would ignore the setting.
Since there were many updates, kernel etc, and don't know what fixes (and unfixes) it.
When I had that trouble I found a way around, by setting it with "kbdrate -r 20 -d 250".
Perhaps this helps you too.

kbdrate seems to change the keyboard speed, not the mouse speed.

Sorry, my bad...

Try "xset m 1 1"...seems to work a little better to me, but still wayyy faster than what it was before the update. Maybe they'll get this fixed within the next day or so.

Doesn't change anything for me. I filed a bug report anyways.

Same problem here. I can alter my mouse speed via 'xset m' but I can't put it low enough or as low as before xorg-server-1.6.0.

It looks like the issue is that xset doesn't recognize fractions anymore...

I believe they have added some new pointer acceleration models. You might be able to configure it as this page describes.

Thanks paul! To the thread author: edit your xorg.conf and in the mouse input section add:
Option "ConstantDeceleration" "3"
Of course, you can change the integer to whatever you feel works best for you.
Now, hopefully the maintainer for the gnome mouse config app updates it to include the new options implemented in the new xorg server.

Thanks a ton paul and MeathooK! I was going to come here and post my solution, but MeathooK beat me to it. My mouse is back to normal.
