Question about xscreensaver

I used the following guide to replace gnome-screensaver t xscreensaver as the current 2.26.29's gnome-screensaver does not work (at least for me), it pretty much disregards the gnome-screensaver settings and fades to screensaver every 5 min.

http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php? … ost7079257

So, how would one restore gnome-screensaver to check back to see if it works or not, after a new kernel comes out?  How can those directions in that guide be reversed?

Thanks

Re: Question about xscreensaver

Can't you just add gnome-screensaver to your gnome session, xinit or whatever?

Re: Question about xscreensaver

Try running xscreensaver-demo, which will allow you to change all of xscreensaver's settings. (that is if you're still interested in using it inplace of gnome-screensaver)

I imagine reversing it would be a simple removal of xscreensaver and then reinstallation of gnome-screensaver, then reversing whatever settings you changed (gnome probably has an autostart/service settings manager that you changed when switching to xscreensaver, not too sure since I don't use gnome :P )

Let me guess you use KDE? tongue  Well I didnt backup the conf file so Id have to remember what it was in the .desktop file, but shouldnt be overly too hard.

Re: Question about xscreensaver

Nope, an xfce fan here :]

Just took a quick look through the quide you posted, doesn't seem too difficult to undo, I'm actually wondering if reinstalling gnome-screensaver will reinstall all the .desktop and gconf values too...

Re: Question about xscreensaver

Some good information on what you just mentioned:

This is for xubuntu: but I suppose its around the same method:
