Screen freezes, mouse can still move

When I tried to upgrade yesterday, I had a conflict with xorg-server. After a bit of searching I stumbled onto http://www.archlinux.org/news/436/. So I did that and my system updated perfectly.

When I booted this morning I could log in just fine (slim) but when my XFCE session loads, my screen just freezes at a random point (sometimes I can see pidgin being loaded, sometimes my screen is all black with just my mousepointer showing). I can always move my mouse pointer though.

Any help will be greatly appreciated!

Downgrading my intel driver and renaming my xorg.conf worked, but now I have a maximum resolution of 800*600. But at least now I can access my music again!
