Hi!
I`m wondering: if an electric bass guitar needs to be connected through usual mic input line, does it need any software? I know in Windows you can connect the guitar and start playing it. But what about Linux?

It should work, provided that your mic works.

Archer start page (or an attempt at it)

it works. check out: jackd, qjackctl, audacity, ardour etc if you want to record sth.
as far as the mic/line in input works you'll hear your instrument.
btw: welcome to the forums :>

I've done this before with my guitar, it works fine. Use whatever recording app seems good.
[git] | [AURpkgs] | [arch-games]

For stunning effects, I recommend you to try using "Rakarrack". It is available on AUR.
yaourt -S rakarrack
It should solve dependences on the fly.

i recently built ardour2.8. this app is rly cool and i can recommend it to everyone who wants to record anything with the computer but unfortunetaly you can't listen directly to your guitar while you're recording it. you have to "tunnel" the signal somehow from somewhere over jackd to an output -.-

@arch0r: try by using qjackctl (it is on AUR) and read a bit from here http://jackaudio.org/faq it should work on-the-fly w/ any app...
regards!
