Stop Wiimote/wminput from controlling window manager?

I'm trying to setup a Wii Remote as a gamepad controller, primarily to act as a remote control for Audacious. However, it seems somewhere amidst everything, the remote's events are being sent to the xorg as keyboard and mouse events. The same thing has been reported in various places with XBox 360 controllers, but without any solutions that I can see.
