Hi,
I upgraded to the latest HAL package 0.5.12git20090406.46dc48-2, and there seems to be a change that causes some undesirable performance with my Atheros wireless card.
Post upgrade, whenever networkmanager is started, the card imediately associates with the first open AP it finds, so the user-space nm-applet won't allow you to select a wireless network from those available With the ath5k driver unloaded and reloaded the card will sit at idle until networkmanager is started again, at which point it again immediately reassociates with the AP.
Could this be a dbus issue?
A downgrade to 0.5.11-7 cures the symptoms.
