I have exactly the same problem. Its the same with my gentoo install. The problem occurred in both distributions after an update almost the same day about 4 weeks ago. I use flashblock at the time until its solved. but I hate it. cant watch any southpark anymore www.southparkstudios.com crashes.

I'm going to venture a guess and say it has something to do with the sound configuration. On a hunch, I uninstalled alsa-oss and then flash started working again, so I reinstalled it and then ran alsaconf
as root. Everything appears to be working now.

ioxeer, I tried that with pacman -R alsa-oss and it still crashed on any flash site, even the southpark site above. I was hoping this was the miracle fix, but its still not sovled yet. Someone needs to win a prize for figuring this one out. LOL

Yes, that would definitely be nice! Did you try running alsaconf as well? If it still doesn't work after that, it might be helpful for you to do some tweaking to and investigating of ALSA since that's what it seems the issue for me was. Obviously I can't try other things as it's now working for me.

I have a problem only on mybrute.com (funny flash game)... Firefox just crashes and I got a following message in terminal:
Removing DOMNodeRemoved listener
Removing DOMNodeRemoved listener
... I use alpha 64bit flash plugin from adobelabs... FF 3.08...
Found some bug reports for alpha flash plugin that mention this and some on noscript plugin but when I disable noscript problem remains...

Illegal instruction indicates that something (probably flashplugin) is using a processor instruction which is invalid on your CPU... can you run 'gdb firefox', cause the error, and then type 'disass' into gdb to show the dissassembly? Also, 'cat /proc/cpuinfo' to see what kind of CPU you have?
Offline
Somewhere I found something about a processor type/family of '15' cause the problem. Maybe Google will help, but I can't remember where I found it. Maybe it was the Ubuntu forums?

Cant start via gdb, but I have seen this issue on both Intel and AMD processors. You can see that on the Adobe bug report page for this problem.

Hi,
This seems to be an error in flash itself. The upstream (adobe) forum can be found here:
http://bugs.adobe.com/jira/browse/FP-1026
I strongly encourage people who have this problem to make some noise and post to the thread.
Include the output of 'uname -a', 'cat /proc/cpuinfo', and for bonus points, the output of running 'gdb firefox' (then hit run/enter)
[...]
And then just paste the flash part of about:config (assuming you use firefox - alternatively, just get version number).
Hopefully, making some noise, and providing good feedback, will get this annoying bug resolved faster.
altrus
Can't agree more, if this bug affects you, making some noise by providing useful information and feedback to flashplayer's devs will simply help squash the vile bug.
I KISS you.

Has anyone heard of any news or progress on this bug? Its been a confirmed bug for almost 6 full months, and still no flash at all for lots of people!

My browser doesn't crash as much as the sound issue.
I dont know if its related to this but also some sites with flash sometimes the audio stops for an arbitrary amount of time, then comes back on.

Did someone tried to play a FLV video with MPlayer, while having this flash problem? Every time I have it, MPlayer doesn't play flv, as well. If I run mplayer from the terminal I get:
$ mplayer -gui
...
mplayer: could not connect to socket
mplayer: No such file or directory
then, when I open a video:
Playing /home/user/video
libavformat file format detected.
...
AO: [alsa] 37286Hz 2ch s16le (2 bytes per sample)
[AO_ALSA] Unable to find simple control 'PCM',0.
Starting playback...
...
MPlayer interrupted by signal 11 in module: play_audio
- MPlayer crashed by bad usage of CPU/FPU/RAM.
I think they are related.

This is ridiculous. Not only is it still happening, but flash the primary cause of ALL firefox crashes on Linux:
http://crash-stats.mozilla.com/query/qu … act&query=
This is absurd. If the developers are going to take out the radeon drivers because AMD offers poor developer and open source support, why doesn't the same apply to flash? Flash is the number one cause of all browser crashes...
And yet, more and more websites are offering flash-only content. It's absurd.
Additionally, I'm having problems reviewing the previously posted URL to access the adobe issue tracker. Is anyone else have any problems?

Just installed gnash but I dont get any flash on adobes site or you tube. its always grayed out for me? Can you get to this site and see flash working? http://www.adobe.com/products/flashplayer/
Did you uninstall the adobe flash first? I have not done that yet.

So does this just prevent the browser from crashing or does it get flash actually working most of the time?

I'm posting a more complete solution; after rebooting, gnash presented me with an error message informing me to install gstreamer-ffmpeg.
The following procedure seems to have completely solved my problem; I have not had a flash crash in two days which is a very welcome change from the increasingly frequent crashes I previously experienced. Moreover, after installing additional packages, youtube and all the associated sites work perfectly.
The commands are:
#Pacman -S gnash-common gnash-gtk gstreamer0.10-plugins
Note that the gstreamer0.10-plugins seems to be an unmarked dependency for gnash, I've filed bug report 14771.

You, sir, are a gentleman and a scholar. This worked like a charm. THANK YOU.
Edit: Spoke too soon. It stops the browser from crashing on MOST sites and some that didn't work before do work now, but some that worked before no longer work at all. Youtube vids become so choppy as to be almost unwatchable.
