So I'm following the Beginner's Guide on the wiki, and I go to the point about testing out X. Turns out that my mouse and keyboard won't work. I don't have any sort of X in the middle of my (currently solid black) screen like I should and my keyboard won't exit when I hit control alt backspace. I'm not sure what's going on since my keyboard is standard and is set as such, my rc.conf has hal added to the daemons so that I should be fine with the whole input hotplugging deal, my xorg.conf was set up by nvidia-config, and I've tried checking everything they suggest in the errors section. Any suggestions?
Many thanks,
Wes

Welcome to Arch!
ctrl+alt+backspace won't work by default; gotta add that ability back in by hand. It's covered in skottish's link.
You know, last time I installed arch I had this weird problem where the X -config option wasn't working for me: the test would fail in the same manner you are describing, but startx would work. So if you haven't tried this already, try startx. I think X installs with TWM, so you should see at least a eterm and xclock. If startx also fails, then something else is weird.
A bit of advice:
If you want to get good help on these forums, you'll need to add more information so that we can take a look and maybe pinpoint whats going on. In this instance, a good start would be to paste your xorg.conf. You could also paste /var/log/Xorg.0.log.
Good luck!
