found a wallpaper i like but its all fuzzy and low res so made it an excuse to give vectoring a try.

Thanks, its snap in the gtk apps and dwm bar,  terminus in urxvt.

I've resolved to hand-code all the monitor widgets, and so far things are working out.

Really nice, what theme is it?

Murrine-Brave (gtk) and Shiki-Colors Striped (metacity).  Icons are gnome-colors.

It's all in the text editor in the top left-hand corner of his screenshot.
