ALSA: fine tuning (mike)

Hi,

ALSA generally works - more or less (no mike). I tried Google, gleaned next to nothing. The only thing I've found which still holds some promise is this: ALSA-Configuration.txt. At least, I've been advised to have a close look at the doc. Unfortunately, I have not got enough knowledge to make use of it. Any suggestions? How am I supposed to make most out of my hardware using the info?

Hardware:

Card: HDA Intel
Chip: Realtek ALC660-VD

Audio device: Intel Corporation 82801H (ICH8 Family) HD Audio Controller (rev 03)

Re: ALSA: fine tuning (mike)

I did some further research to the best of my ability smile . There's also HD-Audio-Models.txt file. I tried to put the following line in /etc/modprobe.conf:

options snd-hda-intel model=NAME

where NAME was taken from HD-Audio-Models.txt file. toshiba and 3stack-dig names produced the default alsamixer configuration (not working), other relevant names an error from ALSA boot script:

Unknown hardware: "HDA-Intel" "Realtek ALC660-VD" ...

The latter cases presented me with a different alsamixer interface, also unworkable. What else can I try?
