ATA Soft Resetting Link Error

Igh...my Arch Linux won't boot up because of an ata1.01 error{ICRC ABRT} error...and it's "soft resetting the link". What do I do? This happened just recently.

For every problem, there is a solution that is:
Clean
Simple and most of all...wrong!

Re: ATA Soft Resetting Link Error

Are your hard drive cables and your PSU OK? This might indicate a hardware problem, I had it with a failing HDD and a bad DVD drive on my desktop.

Re: ATA Soft Resetting Link Error

And sometimes this has nothing to do with your drive failing. Try a SMART test if you can.

Although note that SMART is notorious for reporting false positives.

After having four hard disks in a row (all 500 GiB 3.0 GIB/S SATA) report this problem, I think I've concluded this is a tremendously evasive bug in the kernel.

Does anyone know if calling legacyide in the boot parameters of the kernel helps?
