comprehensive laptop acpi howto

im not looking just for one, since the acpid method just works for some, not for others....

im trying to figure out how the whole thing works inorder to make my notebook behave predictibly upon acpi events....

im asking, because i used to have a power saving script run while on battery which stopped working somehow...
i tied adding it to the acpid handler.sh function in /etc/acpi but its being ignored. so the battery event is being grabbed by someone else
is there a way to centralize acpi events so that daemons stop fighting for them?
