D-Link wireless USB adapter

Hello.

I just bought a D-Link DWL-G122 wireless USB adapter and I can't get it working on my laptop. I already have a wireless chip on the laptop from intel but want to connect with the usb adapter. Now NetworkManager detects the new adapter (adds a "D-Link Wireless .." label on the popup menu. But I can only connect to networks with the onboard wireless chip. If I turn off the wireless on my laptop, NetworkManager disables wireless entirely.

I checked the dmesg message after plugging in the USB adapter and got:

usb 2-5: new high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 5
usb 2-5: configuration #1 chosen from 1 choice
wmaster0 (rt73usb): not using net_device_ops yet
phy5: Selected rate control algorithm 'minstrel'
wlan0 (rt73usb): not using net_device_ops yet
Registered led device: rt73usb-phy5:radio
Registered led device: rt73usb-phy5:assoc
Registered led device: rt73usb-phy5:quality
rt73usb 2-5:1.0: firmware: requesting rt73.bin
phy5 -> rt2x00lib_request_firmware: Error - Failed to request Firmware.
rt73usb 2-5:1.0: firmware: requesting rt73.bin
phy5 -> rt2x00lib_request_firmware: Error - Failed to request Firmware.

My kernel is:
Linux luka-laptop 2.6.29-ARCH #1 SMP PREEMPT Wed Apr 8 12:39:28 CEST 2009 x86_64 Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU T7100 @ 1.80GHz GenuineIntel GNU/Linux

There's a strange firmware error. I checked under /lib/firmware/ and there is no rt73.bin file. What should I do now? Should I return the D-Link adapter and change it with one that is more supported on Linux? Please help.

Greets,
Luka

Re: D-Link wireless USB adapter

The firmware package is in the core repo - pacman -S rt2x00-rt71w-fw .

This information, and much more, is on the Wireless Setup page in the wiki. Please search the wiki and the forum for answers before asking questions here.
