Weird hang, then freeze

hey all, I was playin oblivion just a few minutes ago... when I experienced a weird hang then a freeze, this problem occurred when playing an avi file in mplayer yesterday as well... I know it is related because there is a hard freeze, sound still works, but the keyboard does not respond. It's only happened to me twice in the whole time I have been using arch, so I was wondering where to look in the log files for the error? Also any probable causes would be cool to.

BTW, mplayer was paused in full screen for 10 minutes or so... I havent tried to recreate because I hate hard powering off my lappy.... Oh and mouse still works when this happens too.

Well, you should start giving information of your video card, it seems to be the problem....
I use an intel 965GM and sometimes, when scrolling through heavy pages in firefox, the computer just freezes.... but if I wait long enough, it comes back.... It started to happen after the xorg and drivers upgrades, specially the intel one, that is pretty buggy....
So... need info.... post your hardware specs, specially video, and the version of the packages of xorg and the drivers....
look for /var/log/Xorg.0.log.old after this bug, and post it here....

i'm not sure if this has anything to do with your post, but the symptoms are similar.. the past couple of days i also had a few freezes (couldn't kill X,switch to VT, but there was still HD activity and i could move the mouse) needing a hard reboot.
