Hi I use the pt_PT.utf8 locale in the terminal and the keyboard layout is fine but in the GUI mode I've set the keyboard layout to this and it isn't right. I have also seen the alternatives at /usr/share/X11/xkb/symbols and set this parameter to pt, however it isn't working either. Can someone help me please _question mark_

If the layout you appear to be using in X is a plain en_US one, did you see this?

Yes, I had seen the link, thanks.
Here is the log of startx:
The XKEYBOARD keymap compiler (xkbcomp) reports:
> Warning: Type "ONE_LEVEL" has 1 levels, but <RALT> has 2 symbols
> Ignoring extra symbols
Errors from xkbcomp are not fatal to the X server
Could not init font path element /usr/share/fonts/Type1, removing from list!

I disabled the line in the xorg.conf that says:
Option "XkbVariant" ""
It still gives those xkbcomp errors but it solved it !
Thanks

Try without an Xorg configuration, then add the bits you need, easier to work that way . There's a big chance your setup will just work fine without, and your keyboard gets defined in a hal config file, so you won't break too much .
As for the Xlib errors: make sure to do a full sync with pacman, and a reboot of X should make those Xlib errors go away .

Thanks B
Ok , I don-t know why but the layout is again screwed and I haven-t done anything in the meantime.
EDIT: Now it's working again :s
