X/GDM/HAL/GVM madness

Hi folks,
Here is latest strangeness on my box.  I am currently running UDEV, which for the most part seems to be running fine along with the 2.6.9-ARCH kernel.  However, once I start DBUS and HAL and GDM (at startup), nothing I type shows up.  I can't log in.   I can't even change to a vitual terminal.  it's as if the keyboard is not even present.  the only way to get back my system is to do a reboot.  Additonal Strangeness: If I go to a virtual terminal first, and then start GDM, my keyboard works fine.  so either X or GDM (or a combination of all of the above) is really screwing up my system.  My current fix is not running either DBUS or HAL and I am doing ok.  Has anyone else seen this issue?

Also, I have reason to believe that this may be kernel related.  I pacman'd the mm version of the kernel and that freezes the keyboard even w/o the HAL or DBUS.

If anyone can help, I would be most grateful.
TIA

Re: X/GDM/HAL/GVM madness

Here's how you can log into your system...

Go to Actions, then XDBM chooser (I forget what it's called).  Then hit cancel to go back into login screen.  From there you can now ctrl-alt-f1 to get to a working console.  Remove gdm from rc.conf, and put a /etc/rc.d/gdm start in rc.local.  That will make your keyboard in GDM work.  I don't know why, but it will work for now.

Mine works without modification. Maybe post the errors you're having.
