multiple terminal app like terminator that works with xcompmgr

I have terminator installed because I like being able to have multiple terminals open in the same window.  I also would like to have a transparent terminal, but it seem that VTE, which terminal is based on, does not play nice with xcompmgr.  Currently I am using Openbox, no gnome or kde.

Are there any other terminal apps that do what terminator does?  If not, I am going to have to give up on either the transparent terminal or the multiple terminals.

urxvt?
It provides basic tabbing if called as "urxvt -pe tabbed".

That's right....urvxt + dvtm seems like something you'd like....but perhaps you can look into gnu screen
