[request] Anyone have a PKGBUILD for kernel 2.6.30 series?

After reports in this thread that recent compositing performance regressions  on intel graphics are fixed in kernel 2.6.30, I'd like to give the release kernel a try.

I'm pretty crap with kernel config files though, so does anyone have a PKGBUILD lying around they'd be willing to share? If it can be installed next to the normal kernel, that'd be even better. Cheers!

Just so you're clear - there is no 2.6.30 "release kernel" yet. There are release candidates, the most recent being 2.6.30-rc3.

Editing the existing kernel26 PKGBUILD to build 2.6.30-rc3 is fairly straightforward, if you want to try it yourself. All the information you need is in the wiki.

Oops, i meant release candidate, not release of course -- sorry for the typo.

I tried modifying the existing PKGBUILD, but the build failed with the 2.6.29.1 config file, so some options must have changed:

.config:3870:warning: symbol value 'm' invalid for GFS2_FS_LOCKING_DLM

I've seen several people mention that they're running 2.6.30rc3, so rather than doing a couple of builds until I've got the settings right, I thought I'd avoid reinventing the wheel :-).

You can use kernel26-git (http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=25304).  I think the latest fixes for intels stuff have just gone on Linus' git branch anyway.

Thanks. I wasn't sure about the stability of GIT snapshots as compared to the release candidates, but I guess I'll give that a try. The build script takes me into a kernel config menu -- does anyone know if there are settings that must be changed?

edit: Tried it with default settings and seems to work fine! Much better compositing performance under kwin than with the 2.6.29 series.

What to do after I compiled and installed it with pacman (it didn't conflict with kernel26)?

Now I have kernel26.img and kernel26-git.img in my /boot/

You'll have to add an entry in your boot/grub/menu.lst for your git kernel. Then reboot and select that new entry. smile
