Cheers Xyne, this is really well-made stuff. Especially love the LOLCODE (xD) and Perl logos.

In my opinion, you should specify a license for those svgs. Maybe a CreativeCommons one?

--> http://creativecommons.org/license/

I've thought about addressing the licensing issue, but it's complicated by the use of logos for the respective languages as well as the Arch logo. The current effective license is "you can do whatever you want with these that you could do with the logos on which they're based".

Again, please suggest an icon/logo when making a request. I have no idea what to use for assembly language.

Re: Arch Linux Programming Language Logos

Well, it's pretty hard to find any assembler symbolics. Here what I googled and my suggestions:
http://www.bixoft.com/images/z390.jpg would be cool without z390 and with pixelized font
http://www.int0x80.gr/int0x80_sm2.gif int 0x80 or just 0x80

http://www.osix.net/images/assembly.gif
http://www.azillionmonkeys.com/qed/x86.gif

Maybe some random assembler commands (like mov eax pop ebx) on arch logo like two previous icons.

Re: Arch Linux Programming Language Logos

Nice work on the (La)TeX and the Lua logos!

What about lisp? I don't know if it really has a logo, but a lambda between parentheses would suffice big_smile

This is not the official logo for lisp but it was the first thing that I found on google when I searched for: lisp logo

Yeah, I found that as well, but I think that if you were to convert this image to black/white it wouldn't be that nice/clear.

Re: Arch Linux Programming Language Logos

I found that one too but didn't use it initially because it didn't appear to be in common usage. I went with a variation of the (λ) logo instead.

Anyway, I've added a Lisp-alien logo.

Re: Arch Linux Programming Language Logos

Xyne, great work! Could you possibly make a Python one that is just blue / arch colored instead of blue/yellow?

Also, I've seen a couple of WM arch logos in the artwork package, but is there a thread for those? I miss a compiz-fusion arch logo...

Re: Arch Linux Programming Language Logos

I've added a PHP logo.

I might do Vim and Emacs logos.

As for color variations, I can do that but I want to see if I can script that somehow. If people start requesting variations like that it will get very tedious to do it manually.

Re: Arch Linux Programming Language Logos

What about a Lisp logo a little taller? I'm not very good with inkscape and this svg is a little bit hackish, but you can get the idea:

(lambda ())

Re: Arch Linux Programming Language Logos

@Shapeshifter
Here's teh python logo with the standard Arch colors:
arch-python_logo_3.png
svg: http://xyne.archlinux.ca/img/logos/arch … logo_3.svg

I realized that scripting the conversion would be problematic because the Python logos use separate paths for the Arch logo.

@andre.ramaciotti
That's not too bad. I'll play around the Lisp logo a bit and see if I come up with something. I really don't like any of the Lisp ones so far (and the color is nasty imo, but it's the only one that's remotely symbolic due to the (unofficial?) Alien logo.

Thanks for php logo. Can this logos be used on commercial webpages (for example on my php freelancing portfolio, not as my logo, but somewhere in sidebar) ?

Re: Arch Linux Programming Language Logos

For my part, I don't mind how you use it. Keep in mind though that the work is based on both the Arch logo and the PHP logo and thus carries over any restrictions that those two might carry themselves.

Re: Arch Linux Programming Language Logos

Added a Lisp logo following andre.ramaciotti's suggestion and changed the colors of the others (full fluorescent green was just nasty).

Ah, I got your email but didn't see that you'd posted them here too. I hope you don't mind that I redid Emacs and Vim myself. The only difference between your version of Emacs and mine is that I included the shadows using semi-transparency.

I'd been avoiding the Vim one because there are no svg's of the logo and it's actually quite detailed. I think I got the right level of definition in the cut-out but it took some time.

This one, right? I found that one too but I didn't like the way the "i" and "m" looked (it's like a Stephen King novel... it starts out well with the square and the V but then the guy just says "f*** this", rushes through the "im", calls it good enough and moves on).
