[SOLVED] nvidia: compiz and glxinfo at 100% cpu

I upgraded my system yesterday and as GNOME starts, compiz, glxinfo and nvidia-settings jumps at 100% cpu.
The only way to have a sane behavior is to kill compiz and glxinfo and run metacity instead.

Tested with nvidia 180.44 and nvidia-beta 185.19

Anyone experiencing that?

OK, I found the cause but not the solution:

I'm running fusion-icon, which calls glxinfo that hangs before exiting. I disabled fusion-icon at startup and no more 100% CPU usage, but anyway glxinfo hangs when run.

ok... reinstalled nvidia and nvidia utils and no result... then searched for libGL.so on the filesystem and saw old files left by a manual installation on the drivers using the NVIDIA installer under /usr/lib64..

removed everything, and restarted. it's working now.

Hello Eazy,

Thanks for the posts. I have had the same problem (old manual nvidia installation) and your solution has worked for me. That will teach me not to mess with the package manager.
