cannot boot ppc arch install cd

huhu,

sorry i know that there are already thousands of these threads, but in none of them i found a solution. so maybe this one is different;-)

as a present i got a 400 mhz mac powerpc g4 with 448 mb sdram. on which i would like to install arch parallel to os x. i have got a free partition for linux and for yaboot bootloader as well.

i followed the ppc wiki install guide, but i cannot boot any of the arch install cds. i tried 2009.03.30 - NewWorld Boot ISO and also older ones.
if i press alt, i can see the cd in openfirmware, but if i select it, the normal os x boot process starts. i even tried "sudo bless -device /dev/disk1s1s2 -setBoot" in osx from the wiki without any success.

i have these problems with arch and with debian boot cds and dvds.

the strange thing is that i downloaded the opensuse ppc install dvd and from that it works. i can install opensuse and yaboot.

but opensuse really is a pain in the ass, so does anyone have an idea how to boot from arch install cd?

what is the difference between those install cds / dvds?

I have running AL un an Ibook G4 without any problem.
What I found out is that Apple cd/dvd-readers/writers are very picky about the disks you feed them with.
Buy high quality disks and try to write them on the machine you intend to use them on
