Why doesn't the kernel have a maintainer (just curious)?

I just noticed the new kernel upgrade in testing and also noticed that it has no maintainer. I am just purely curious why. I feel I must be missing something about how Arch works. Isn't this the most important package of all?

All packages in testing are orphans.  To see who the maintainer is, you have to check either the core or extra repos.  kernel26 is maintained by tpowa (Tobias Powalowski).

Ah. Thanks for explaining and satisfying my curiosity. Does that mean when they enter testing, the are basically just exactly as the are from upstream?

No, it means that we are too efficient (lazy...) to adopt packages when we upload them to [testing].  This is because they are only in [testing] temporarily on their way to [core]/[extra].
