Pls help w/ Intel video tearing (Intel G35, Xorg 1.6, Kernel 2.6.29)

Hi guys,

I've searched everywhere and tried pretty much everything but to be honest half the stuff confuses me and I'm not sure exactly what I am doing.

Basically, no matter what I have tried--from no xorg.conf to one with many different types of configuration options--I get very noticeable video tearing with my onboard Intel video card.

The only way I've managed to fix this so far is within mplayer only using the overlay port.

However, I'd like to have universal tear-free operations.

Can anyone suggest anything that may help me? Is it possible?

Thanks!

The problem is in the intel video driver, therefor you can't do anything. Just wait for developers to fix it. I use xf86-video-intel-2.6.99.902 and I have no tearing in fullscreen. I hope that ver. 2.7 can finally solve this problem. Besides using overlay port You can also try to use gl output, but you have to set vsync. I can't do this because I use dri2 and it has its own problem with vsync.

Hi ive had the same problem with my 845G chip. Testing/intel-2.7.0 didnt fix it, but intel-newest from aur did fix it. Currently its at 2.7.99. It might fix your problem too.

As far as I know, You can't have universal (to everything, not only video) tear-free operations on any card on linux, except when using ati cards up to r5xx chipsets. (in that case using EXAVSYNC option with a 2d compositor is the only way).

For now, as most new intel drivers are buggy as hell, I suggest using the xv overlay with any video player you use, until things get fixed.
