Edit: why do you have different colors in vi when we have same .Xdefaults? (If you not edited)

I think it's because of my .vimrc:

set ruler
set tabstop=4
syntax on
set background=dark

The set background option is probably causing the difference wink

I plan on moving to Openbox pretty soon. I still want to get things running and make the system stable before I move on to the next project. I started with gnome because it was a familiar face in an unfamiliar OS.

thanks bro, and I completely understand, I was using debian with kde for a couple years, so when i started testing other distros kde was my comfort zone kinda. i really hope your openbox experience goes well, you might want to try fluxbox and pekwm too which are similar, Im a fluxbox user when i want a stacking wm
