Problems with RPM fans [SOLVED]

Hello. I'm a Spanish user. I don't speak very well English, I'm sorry.

My problem: PWMconfig don't detect modules:

$ pwmconfig
# pwmconfig revision 5630 (2009-01-29)
This program will search your sensors for pulse width modulation (pwm)
controls, and test each one to see if it controls a fan on
your motherboard. Note that many motherboards do not have pwm
circuitry installed, even if your sensor chip supports pwm.

We will attempt to briefly stop each fan using the pwm controls.
The program will attempt to restore each fan to full speed
after testing. However, it is ** very important ** that you
physically verify that the fans have been to full speed
after the program has completed.

/usr/sbin/pwmconfig: There are no pwm-capable sensor modules installed

This is my lm_sensors:

# Generated by sensors-detect on Wed Apr 22 22:22:34 2009
# This file is sourced by /etc/rc.d/lm_sensors and defines the modules to
# be loaded/unloaded.
#
# The format of this file is a shell script that simply defines variables:
# HWMON_MODULES for hardware monitoring driver modules, and optionally
# BUS_MODULES for any required bus driver module (for example for I2C or SPI).

HWMON_MODULES="adt7473 coretemp w83627ehf"

# For compatibility reasons, modules are also listed individually as variables
#    MODULE_0, MODULE_1, MODULE_2, etc.
# You should use BUS_MODULES and HWMON_MODULES instead if possible.

MODULE_0=adt7473
MODULE_1=coretemp
MODULE_2=w83627ehf

Sensors:

$ sensors
coretemp-isa-0000
Adapter: ISA adapter
Core 0:      +42.0°C  (high = +82.0°C, crit = +100.0°C)

coretemp-isa-0001
Adapter: ISA adapter
Core 1:      +37.0°C  (high = +82.0°C, crit = +100.0°C)

coretemp-isa-0002
Adapter: ISA adapter
Core 2:      +34.0°C  (high = +82.0°C, crit = +100.0°C)

coretemp-isa-0003
Adapter: ISA adapter
Core 3:      +33.0°C  (high = +82.0°C, crit = +100.0°C)

Here, in Spain, I don't get any answer:P. I think in this forum you can solve my problem.

Thanks!!!

Re: Problems with RPM fans [SOLVED]

Hi.

I don't think the lm_sensors file is handled automatically by ARCH.
If you need to load extra modules you should instead add them in the MODULES section in /etc/rc.conf
So:

1) Add: adt7473 coretemp w83627ehf  to the list of modules in /etc/rc.conf
2) Reboot
3) pwmconfig

Re: Problems with RPM fans [SOLVED]

Hope it works out!
If you still are having problems maybe your motherboard is unsupported?

Re: Problems with RPM fans [SOLVED]

Mmm... I just tried this, but it's the same. My motherboard is "ASUS P5Q-E". In Windows Vista Ultimate 64 bits I can do this with SpeedFan.

My rc.conf is this:

#
# /etc/rc.conf - Main Configuration for Arch Linux
#

# -----------------------------------------------------------------------
# LOCALIZATION
# -----------------------------------------------------------------------
#
# LOCALE: available languages can be listed with the 'locale -a' command
# HARDWARECLOCK: set to "UTC" or "localtime"
# USEDIRECTISA: use direct I/O requests instead of /dev/rtc for hwclock
# TIMEZONE: timezones are found in /usr/share/zoneinfo
# KEYMAP: keymaps are found in /usr/share/kbd/keymaps
# CONSOLEFONT: found in /usr/share/kbd/consolefonts (only needed for non-US)
# CONSOLEMAP: found in /usr/share/kbd/consoletrans
# USECOLOR: use ANSI color sequences in startup messages
#
LOCALE="es_ES.utf8"
HARDWARECLOCK="local"
USEDIRECTISA="no"
TIMEZONE="Europe/Madrid"
KEYMAP="es"
CONSOLEFONT=
CONSOLEMAP=
USECOLOR="yes"

#
# NOTE: Use of 'MOD_BLACKLIST' is deprecated. Please use ! in the MODULES array.
#
MOD_AUTOLOAD="yes"

# Scan for LVM volume groups at startup, required if you use LVM

# Use 'ifconfig -a' or 'ls /sys/class/net/' to see all available interfaces.
#
# Interfaces to start at boot-up (in this order)
# Declare each interface then list in INTERFACES
# - prefix an entry in INTERFACES with a ! to disable it
# - no hyphens in your interface names - Bash doesn't like it
#
# DHCP: Set your interface to "dhcp" (eth0="dhcp")
# Wireless: See network profiles below
#

ROUTES=(!gateway)

# Enable these network profiles at boot-up. These are only useful
# if you happen to need multiple network configurations (ie, laptop users)
# - set to 'menu' to present a menu during boot-up (dialog package required)
# - prefix an entry with a ! to disable it
#
# Network profiles are found in /etc/network.d
#
# This now requires the netcfg package
#
#NETWORKS=(main)

# -----------------------------------------------------------------------
# DAEMONS
# -----------------------------------------------------------------------
#
# Daemons to start at boot-up (in this order)
#   - prefix a daemon with a ! to disable it
# - prefix a daemon with a @ to start it up in the background
#
DAEMONS=(syslog-ng @network netfs crond alsa gdm gpm dbus hal cups sensors)

What can I do?

Thank you very much!!

Re: Problems with RPM fans [SOLVED]

you can follow your first way to load the modules (inserting them in lm-sensors.conf). of corse you must add the sensors deamon in rc.conf

for coretemp: out of the box

for adt7473: i think this is a sensors chip in your nvidia graphic card. sorry but i have no experience with that.

for w83627ehf: add in modprobe.conf

options w83627ehf force_id=0x8860

and you are okay whit the sensor chip. dunno for rpm fan regulation, i use q-fan.
