[solved] Garbled text in Abiword (caused by bug xf86-video-radeonhd)

After installing Abiword, text looks like this:


I only see this in Abiword and not with any other app. The problem stays after deleting ~/.AbiSuite, and after trying different fonts (Liberation, Dejavu Sans, Arial). I googled extensively and went through the Wiki. I don't know wether a specific update caused it because I never used Abiword before. Maybe a Pango or graphics driver issue? What could I try next?

It seems to be this bug(pixmap corruption) in xf86-video-radeonhd . I'm using version 1.2.5-1 from the 'extra' repo. Until a fix is committed a workaround is to comment out:

Option "AccelMethod" "EXA"

in the graphics driver 'Device' section in xorg.conf
