International Student films festival - linux supported?

Hey,

In may next year there is gonna be an international movie festival, with thousands of participants, in Tel Aviv, Israel.

During this festival there's gonna be a movie editing contest.

I was wondering if that contest can be linux-based:

Do you think that linux's video/sound editing tools are mature enough for productive use?
Can you recommend some good tools to start with?

These tools should be easy enough to learn for users who haven't touched linux in their lives just yet -
and should be English based of course (the students who are expected to arrive come from Europe, USA, Canada...).

Thanks a lot

PiTiVi and Kino are both video editing apps for Linux.  Dunno about usability, you'll have to install them and see if they suit you.
