xvkbd & gdm

Has anyone ever been able to get xvkbd to work with gdm?  I can get it to run just fine but apparently there's a setting either in xvkbd or x itself that doesn't allow for xvkbd to function properly.  When I run xvkbd in a wm it works just fine but in gdm everytime a keypress is done I get two characters repeated.  This can be rather annoying when all you have to work with is a touchscreen.  Also, before any other on-screen keyboard is suggested, I've tried them.  I'd use matchbox-keyboard but it's not mature enough to be configured the way I want yet.  I was wondering specifically if there is a way to configure something in xorg.conf to avoid this issue.  About the only thing I have configured there of any consequence is the touchscreen driver and the funky 1024x600 screen resolution.  This is the last hurdle I have to having this device configured the way I want and short of hacking the source I'm at a loss.
