Problems connecting Samsung Soul (SGH-U900) as MTP device

I get this error with libmtp 0.3.6 with mtp-connect:

PTP_ERROR_IO: Trying again after re-initializing USB interface
LIBMTP PANIC: Could not open session! (Return code 767)
  Try to reset the device.
No devices.

I have added myself to the camera group and digikam 0.10.0rc2
finds the phone and connects it but I want to know why doesn't
the mtp-connect work...

BTW How will I find out where in /dev the phone is?...

my u900 doesn't even work in data mode >.<

does someone knows the answer ?

Run

# udevadm monitor

then plug in the device, you'll see a lot of stuff scroll by, there should be some /dev entries that make sense even to the uninitiated .

Can you successfully connect as root or not?
