The same here on Gnome. Reinstalled qt as well, didn't help.

Have you tried rebuilding the kernel module? The 686 kernel was just updated, the 86_64 is still lagging behind a bit...

try launching virtualbox with either
VirtualBox --rmode sdl
or
VirtualBox --rmode image
Depending on the phase of the moon, one of those should work
On my Old Man's machine --rmode sdl was working and now today --rmode image works but not sdl, VirtualBox itself hasn't been updated, but the old man has been doing a semi regular pacman -Syu
hope this helps

as i already said in another thread,
the same thing happens to me ABSOLUTELY RANDOMLY.
~ 5 of 6 (or even more) starts fail,
i just kill it and try again. dunno if that works for other ppl.

opened konsole and entered there
while true ; do VirtualBox ; done
killed a few failed attempts with alt ctrl esc
now works with all of image / sdl / nothing
what the heck . . (but atleast it seems to start now)
thanks all

I have exactly the same problem with the origianl poster. I already have qt properly installed. By the way, I use gnome.

What the heck... I start virtualbox from command-line and it works now. and I just updated my qt to 4.5.1-2. I wonder if that is related...
EDIT:
it has nothing to do with it, I start virtualbox another time and it's an empty window again.
