NTP "no server suitable" error

I'm having trouble getting ntp to work. When I run the following code:

$ sudo ntpdate 0.us.pool.ntp.org 1.us.pool.ntp.org 2.us.pool.ntp.org
 6 May 13:51:00 ntpdate[7736]: no server suitable for synchronization found

No matter what I try I get that response. I think my problem might have to do with the fact that I'm stuck behind an http proxy. Is there a way I can see if the proxy is the problem? Are there any fixes if it is?
