Ive always used softlinks to keep my bookmarks in sync between my windows and linux firefox profiles but all the sudden it doesnt want to load the bookmarks anymore, not even if I copy the actual file from the windows profile to the linux one or if i try to use the import from html feature in firefox. So now I dont have any bookmarks in linux which sucks.

I had a similar problem relating to my bookmarks. My solution was to nuke my entire profile directory and reload one from an earlier backup. In my case, even if I deleted bookmark.html file and all the ./bookmark_backups, some how firefox was displaying a list of bookmarks that wouldn't take changes. I still don't understand what the problem was.

your windows firefox profile or your linux firefox profile?

Which file(s) did you link to keep them in synch? It appears that firefox doesn't take bookmarks.html changes into account any more. There is only the sqlite mechanism in effect now, files places.sqlite and places.sqlite-journal in the current profile. It might take some experimentation, if these were really sharable among instances.
I found several MozillaZine articles about this:
http://kb.mozillazine.org/Lost_bookmarks
http://kb.mozillazine.org/Lost_bookmark … _3_upgrade
http://kb.mozillazine.org/Places.sqlite
I did only skim them, however. No idea if they would really help.
To know or not to know ...
... the questions remain forever.

someone told me when FF3 came out that they switched over to places.sqlite, so ive been linking that. whenever i decide on going back into windows 7 ill erase my firefox profile and restore it from a backup like graysky said.
edit: that worked
