KDEMod3.5: splash screen crashes

I did pacman -Syu a few days ago. Since then, when KDEMod 3.5 starts, I don't see the splash screen. Instead, I'm presented immediatly with the desktop, and a window from the KDE crash handler that says the splash screen crashed.

How can I fix this?

Had the same issue myself.
The easiest way of fixing it is choosing another start up theme:
1) Goto the KDE control center
2) Appearance & Themes -> Splash screen
3) Choose Default

I had the same issue and I solved changing the default theme to kdemod3-ksplash-engine-moodin
