SOLVED: Another remote desktop question

I am waiting on my Nokia N810 internet tablet to arrive and I had a few questions about using it to access my Arch workstation. Ok to begin with I have searched the forum and nothing matches my needs or atleast I could not find it. Anyway, I presently run Openbox with twinview on my desktop. I can connect via ssh -Y to my main machine from one of my laptops just fine but of course no audio over ssh. I would like to be able to watch a video or listen to some music from my Arch desktop on my N810. I also tried FreeNX via the wiki and it seems to have a problem with Openbox and twinview. I could see my conky which is dislpayed at the top of screen 0 but nothing else on the screen. I really do not need a gui at all just that FreeNX does audio or so I heard. Anyway, what would be the best way to stream audio/video over my home network? Or alteast, give me some links to point me in the right direction.

Thanks alot

Re: SOLVED: Another remote desktop question

I am looking into NFS right now. Ok I have NFS up and running by using the wiki but it says nothing of a port that needs opening. I use a router for my home network so what should I open up so the client will see the NFS.

THanks

Re: SOLVED: Another remote desktop question

Run
rpcinfo -p

It think it's 2049 you need to open (by default).

    100024 1 tcp 59421 status
    100005 3 udp 43394 mountd

    100003 2 udp 2049 nfs
    100003 3 udp 2049 nfs
    100003 4 udp 2049 nfs
    100021 1 udp 56554 nlockmgr
    100021 3 udp 56554 nlockmgr
    100021 4 udp 56554 nlockmgr
    100021 1 tcp 46175 nlockmgr
    100021 3 tcp 46175 nlockmgr
    100021 4 tcp 46175 nlockmgr
    100003 2 tcp 2049 nfs
    100003 3 tcp 2049 nfs
    100003 4 tcp 2049 nfs

Time to open the port in my router......

Thanks

Re: SOLVED: Another remote desktop question

I have never access an NFS share through a firewall so I'm not 100% sure that will work. You may have to open all 3 ports (portmapper and mountd).

Re: SOLVED: Another remote desktop question

Ok I opened port 2049 on my router and I get "Connection timed out" when I run a port check. I have ssh and rtorrent forwareded so I know how to do it right. Are you sure it runs on port 2049?

Thanks

Got a better method to do what I need?

Thanks

sshfs? Slim Server or CPAN's Apache::MP3 can stream music.

Thanks
