I just stumbled over this by accident, but thank you very much for the compliment !

@PirateJonno:
I tried your new theme and noticed that you have stolen my long standing idea of using a reverse progress bar on shutdown.
hehe , not really my idea anyway i've definitely seen it before somewhere.
I think it would be even nicer to have it going bottom-up on boot and down again on shutdown, but i have no idea how to make this look good together with a centered logo.
You mean just with the logo? or with an extra progress bar? the documentation for themes is pretty good at the berlios site but I could do a mockup if you want.
Just one suggestion for your next update: You might darken the verbose background a little bit, so the foreground could be seen better.
Good idea, I don't actually have fbcondecor anymore so i've never tested the verbose background .

That happens always to me if i have some idea: it's already there.

Don't bother - your theme is to much klingon style anyway for me.
You might try to mod the darch theme making a double progress bar left and right of the logo if that is possible and you get bored.

Tip: I just kept my old fbcondecor 2.6.28 (with firmware removed) for testing beside the stock kernel and bumped the nvidia package.

The splash switches from silent to verbose splash again, when switching from runlevel S to 3.
How can I fix this?

If you see something like this
:: Starting Syslog-NG [FAIL]
and don't want be kicked to tty1: There is a setting for you in /etc/conf.d/fbsplash

I have not got any FAIL.
What I should check in /etc/conf.d/fbsplash

You could try with
SPLASH_VERBOSE_ON_ERRORS="no"
but if you've got no FAIL i can see no reason for this because all stuff triggering verbose mode is in stat_fail() in /etc/rc.d/functions.d/fbsplash.sh. Do you use pkgver 24 ? Which was the latest working ? Did you change or install any other things ?

Ar you able to switch back to silent using F2 ?

New version 25 - Fixed a typo in inithooks.
mini: I don't know if this fixes your problem. Does it really happen right after sysinit ? Do you have
SPLASH_STAY_SILENT="yes"
in your /etc/conf.d/fbsplash ?

I have change to
SPLASH_VERBOSE_ON_ERRORS="no"
and now the splash not switches from silent to verbose splash again, but I do not understand why since I have not got any FAIL.
I am able to switch back to silent using F2.
BTW. The splash starts very late, after the udev has started. Is this normally?

Preparing a new version for testing this...

You could try with
SPLASH_START_EARLY="yes"
But that is experimental stuff.

mini: Please try with pkgver 26 using
SPLASH_VERBOSE_ON_ERRORS="yes"
SPLASH_DISABLE_SVC_EVENTS="yes"

The splash starts earkier now with
SPLASH_START_EARLY="yes"
@kujub
I could find
SPLASH_DISABLE_SVC_EVENTS
in the new pkgver 26

Sorry, i don't understand.

I guess he COULDN'T find SPLASH_DISABLE_SVC_EVENTS.
@mini
That's because fbsplash from pkgver 26 is saved as fbsplash.pacnew. You should follow the instructions from install script and merge fbsplash with fbsplash.pacnew

@hash Thank you, I have fixed the fbsplash.
I have one question more. The progress bar is going at ones to 100%. How can I fix this?

How did you solve the problem ? Did the new option the trick ? If so, what exact theme package do you use ?
The number of steps is counted each time the splash progress is running and stored in /etc/splash/fbsplash_bootsteps and /etc/splash/fbsplash_shutdownsteps. Each message [BUSY]->[DONE] is counted as one step. So if you don't change your configuration or use a different runlevel this should fix itself on next boot.
