Hi,
I got the following problem: when suspending my laptop resuming works the first time without any problems but every time I suspend a second time I get a black screen and the only way to solve this is a hard reset (power-button).
So this happens on all suspend methods that used to work:
kernel: echo -n mem >/sys/power/state
uswsusp: s2ram and pm-suspend
The question is whether or not this is a locale config problem or a bug in a specific package. I'm not sure which one excatly it is because there have been several related updates lately. What I'm suspecting is either kernel26-2.6.29 or pm-utils the graphics driver ca be ruled out because this happens with catalyst and radeon. I tend to believe this is caused by the new kernel.
If somebody has a similar problem or any idea what might cause this please let me now.
Thanks
gobi
Edit: Solved, the last minutes I was looking for a possibility of downgrading kernel26- 2.6.29.1-3 because I didn't keep the packages and found the old packages of kernel26-2-6-28-7-2 and kernel26-firmware-2.6.28-1 on http://mirrors.gigenet.com/archlinux/ which solved the problem. Anyone familiar with the bug-report system might want to file one.
Greetings
Gobi

I had the same problem as you, upgrade to 2.6.29 seems to solve this problem for me. Now is OK.

I've had the same issue with every 2nd resume failing. I've got a Thinkpad T43, currently running:
2.6.29-ARCH #1 SMP PREEMPT Sat May 9 12:47:43 UTC 2009 i686 Intel(R) Pentium(R) M processor 1.86GHz GenuineIntel GNU/Linux
My T42 in the office is running the same version of Arch, but does not have this issue.
Essentially, it will suspend & resume once just fine; the second suspend works too, but the laptop refuses to resume. I'd rather not go back to an older kernel version unless there's no other option.
Please let me know what details I can provide to help troubleshoot this issue.
Thanks

Hi,
the only way to solve this problem for me was to downgrade to kernel 2.6.28 and put it into pacman.conf under IgnorePkg. You have to decide the tradeoff between a working suspend and a newer kernel 2.6.29 (when having enhancements you desperatly need). Furthermore this problem won't probably persist forever so a few weeks/months with an older kernel won't do any harm until a current working kernel is released. Unforunately I don't have any other solution in my mind which might resolve this issue in a more satisfying way
Greetings

Yeah, that's generally been my experience -- nothing ever seems to stay broken for too long with my Arch install! Thanks for the guidance. I'll think about the downgrade, since I'm not aware of any super-special reasons to stick with 2.6.29.
