makepkg with split support ??

A few months ago I've read some mail in pacman-dev list about adding split support to makepkg. According to the last msg this was successful.

Are there any news about this? If this feature is finally implemented are you going to provide split packages for KDE or stay with vanilla KDE?

No idea what is planned to become split
