Re: X and HAL not playing nicely? [SOLVED]

I have also tried to let HAL handle the keyboard and mouse by setting:

Option "AutoAddDevices" "True"

And by copying the HAL policy for X11 input devices:

cp /usr/share/hal/fdi/policy/10osvendor/10-x11-input.fdi /etc/hal/fdi/policy/

However, after i reboot, and then run startx i get the following X log output:

Re: X and HAL not playing nicely? [SOLVED]

0. Did you follow any tried and true ways of doing such upgrades? Have you searched the forums and the wiki?
1. Do you have all drivers and their relatives installed?
2. Is HAL running?
3. What happens when X crashes?

Re: X and HAL not playing nicely? [SOLVED]

Boot to runlevel 3, run X from there, make sure you already have another tty to log in to (or are logged in to), and grep the log again for errors. Then check if restarting HAL (and Xorg afterwards) helps.

I had problems with HAL on the desktop too, turned out it was started too quickly for Xorg to launch in the DAEMONS array, so the stuff could not settle decently before Xorg started up.

:-) Same here. I'm a fresh Archer but things shouldn't break on their own. Yesterday it worked, today it doesn't ... Eventually I remembered I had similar "problems" w/ network.

Re: X and HAL not playing nicely? [SOLVED]

Desktop has been running nicely for two years and up now wink. Things breaking on their own is part of Arch... Devs aren't gonna fix configuration problems for you.

Re: X and HAL not playing nicely? [SOLVED]

Well, in my case configs were fine - it was a typical PEBKAC.
BTW, I've heard that things breaking on their own is a part of Windows :-D
