Hi,
I just installed the new OpenOffice 3.1.0 (x86_64) and when importing a .doc made by Word 2003 containing lots of tables, some of them are gone and only shows a big white space. This problem wasn't happening on the previous (3.0.1) version installed, is anyone else experimenting the same issue? I suppose is a bug...
Thanks

It may be going the other way, too. I sent a document created in OpenOffice with tables saved as a .doc to a friend the other day. She said that all the text just ran together and no table was present.

They're not gone, you can change some other part of the document, save it, and re-open in Microsoft Word, they'll still be there. Somehow OO doesn't see them, though, which is a very iritating bug.

I agree ngoonee, is quite annoying and I couldn't find any solution.. I will probably reinstall the previous version for a short-term fix

Are you using the go-oo version or the stock openoffice.org?

I'm using stock version from OpenOffice.org, pkg: openoffice-base-3.1.0-1-x86_64 any idea?

just tried to open a Word Document containing tables with go-oo 3.1.0 and same results, tables are not shown...

This is a bug with the latest release of OpenOffice and the .doc format. It can screw up more than just tables, for instance, my files kept having the colour changed. If you convert the file to odt, you'll need to fix the formatting once more, but after that it will be ok.
If converting to odt isn't an option, downgrading to OO3.0.0 will allow you to use .doc without problems.

I'm also seeing this bug in 3.1.0, and reverting back to 3.0.1 fixes it.
I also found a procedure that worked for me with OO 3.1.0:
1. open the document
2. go to view -> navigator (or hit F5)
This brings up a window that lists (among other things) all tables in the document
3. right click on a table, then select Table -> Edit
4. In the pop up window select the "Table" tab and either modify the width by a token amount or set left spacing to 0
5. click OK
That makes the table visible. I found that for all invisible tables the values for left and right spacing were completely off, and setting them to reasonable values made the table visible.
Good ideas do not need lots of lies told about them in order to gain public acceptance.
