the screen is powering up, as it has a row full of squares, like described in the link.
i just want to know how i can get ubuntu or arch to control the lcd.

thanks, il look in to it. alot of the dependencies arnt in the repos, so im going to have to compile them aswell.

Try to use yaourt, it builds everything from AUR itself so you don't need to do it all manualy :-)
Please, could you post here later how it works for you? I'd try to find the display i made some time ago and put it on my home server to see some statistics. Thanks

i have all the packages installed. do you have any experience with configuring lcdproc for this particular lcd?

i wont be posting on this for a while, i damaged the motherboard when fitting a new heatsink . as soon as i get the desktop up and running again, i will continue working on the lcdproc config files.
