Of course a Radeon problem :D

Hello.

I have a problem with this damn Radeon card. I have a Radeon 2600 Pro and can't seem to get it to work. I AURed catalyst-utils and then catalyst (tho it told me the dependency catalyst-utils is not there so I removed the entry about it from the file so like it didn't know about the depedency) and installed it. Then I run X and it fails with NO SCREENS FOUND error and COULD NOT FIND DRIVER "ati". Plus I don't have xorg.conf

Thanks
Dev

Re: Of course a Radeon problem :D

You need xorg.conf if you want to use catalyst - driver name is fglrx.

Re: Of course a Radeon problem :D

ATI is not supporting kernel 2.6.29 but kensai is patching those drivers so it works. You can try to use 'aticonfig --initial' to get your config right or look at the wiki.

Re: Of course a Radeon problem :D

Hey so uh, yeah, it says kernel <=2.6.29 in AUR. Well, I have 2.6.29 but even after aticonfig --initial it still fails D:

Re: Of course a Radeon problem :D

What is the problem anyway? You installed both Catalyst and Catalyst-utils, they works but X is not working properly so just change your X.org config and it should works. Look at the wiki.

Re: Of course a Radeon problem :D

Try to delete DRI section, I am not currently on ArchLinux so I cannot check it. If it will not work then delete your config and try to generate new one by using 'hwd -xa' or 'X -config' and then 'aticonfig --initial'.

Re: Of course a Radeon problem :D

Create an empty xorg.conf file. Run aticonfig --initial and then reboot wink

Re: Of course a Radeon problem :D

Did what EvilSide said. Unfortunately it's still the same D: Black screen with some red-blue lines on top and a complete freeze.

//Edit: Here's my Xorg.0.log btw. Maybe it might help.
